Senior Jake West is a Varsity Cross Country runner, which often times can be challenging. The workouts included lots of running and conditioning, which is vital to properly train and prepare the athletes, but can be difficult nonetheless.

“Theoretically you can stop at any time, but if you decide to stick to it, you will improve,” he said.

West mentions that unlike many people would think, Cross Country is a team sport. Points are assigned based on individual’s finishing placement in the race, and when added together at the end of the race, the team with the least amount of overall points is given the victory.

“You must be ready to work hard and improve as a team,” he said.

Cross Country is a great choice for those looking for a sport to compete in during the fall. West recommends joining if you don’t already play football during the season.

“You will work harder than you ever have before,” he said.

West said that he does not plan on running in college.

“I definitely enjoy running and recommend it to those looking for a new sport to try,” he said.
